Mark Butkus, editor of the Bar None Group, married his Mexican bride on the Writers’ Walk on 11/11/11.

I had to go into the cyberworld and the blogosphere to find like-minded souls who would understand my journey. For years since marrying a Dominican and acquiring Spanish, I have struggled for acceptance. Many members of the Latino community are undergoing their own challenges to acculturate. The poem “New Voice Crying Out” addresses two groups: those “who walk stiffly like automatons/ through the metal and asphalt wasteland” and the Dominicans who welcome me on the beach at Puerto Plata.
